This is a Regents level course based upon the Living Environment curriculum of New York State. Biology is the study of living organisms and their interactions with the living environment. Hopefully everyone in our classroom is a human being and as human beings, we are all part of the living environment. The study of biology helps us understand our place in the natural world. Understanding how humans have affected and are affecting the environment help us to make informed decisions about important issues that face us as citizens of our country and the world. As we study each topic, emphasis will be placed on the interconnected nature organisms and their environment. Throughout the duration of this course, instruction will also focus on the development of scientific ideas, the nature of science and the direct implications science has on our lives.
Regents biology has a mandated laboratory component as set forth by New York State. This is because science is a verb. In order to be effective scientists, you will be expected to actively DO science by participating in laboratory activities. Students must complete a full complement of satisfactory lab reports in order to be eligible to take the New York State Regents Exam.
